Having been a teacher and counselor, it is clear to me that many of the life skills our children need to learn will need to be taught at home. In our offices we often encounter young adults struggling to launch with undeveloped executive functioning and life skills.
This summer I want to reinforce character lessons for my children using a simple concept, definition and scripture. The resource I’m using for this is not only filled with twelve lessons but also tons of fun activities to accompany this idea. It’s called, In This House, We Will Giggle. Doesn’t that just sound fun? Subscribe to our Intentional Summer Blog and you will receive a free printable of the 8 In This House character traits and verses our family will be using this summer. I’ve chosen eight of these chapters allowing for weeks off for vacation and camps. I’ve listed all of them in case you have more weeks or choose different priorities. Each week I will post a lovely image of these as well as a verse. There is also a facebook group working on one a month that will continue these and also has some beautifully designed images.

My sister, Melissa Spoelstra, a nationally published Bible Study author for women, has a new parenting book soon to be released. She also has an article in ParentLife Magazine this month regarding summer activity with your kids. She shared with me the SummerBridge series focusing specifically on preventing learning regression during the summer months. They start at Pre-K and go to grade 8. We also were sent home activity ideas by the kids teachers that were free to help them review as well as websites with prizes they can earn like

Another friend reminded me this week (thanks Kristen) that travel and education can go hand in hand. I just ordered some fun books about some of the places we are going to visit and this fun travel journal for kids. We also plan to visit our local library and find some books so we can learn more about the places we plan to visit.

Another reader requested some fun summer activities. The Giggle book has tons but I’ve also pinned some additional ideas as well.
What are some of your plans for the summer and favorite resources that you feel will empower you to meet your goals?
Feel free to share as we all love learning from other moms.
