Want to know how to help your child when they are feeling sad?
Start by asking them what they are feeling and listen. Then ask them where they feel it in their body. Ask them if they were feeling any other feelings as well. This is important because it helps kids begin to understand that sometimes multiple feelings exist at the same time. As you walk with them through this process, make it your goal to understand instead of trying to help them overcomes the feeling that you might feel is negative or difficult. By being fully present with our kids when they are feeling down, it helps them know that they can come to us in moments like these.
